François Lougah: Bravo Sotra

from by Various Artists

Also known as Dago Lougah, born June 22nd 1942 in Lakota, in the west center of the country. At the beginning of the 70's, he was the star and embleml of music for Ivory Coast all over the world. His nickname was "Papa National" and he was the only Ivorian musician to have his face on loincloth.

After building studies in Paris in 1961, and a short professional soccer career in Aubervilliers in France, he studied dramatical arts and became an actor, for example in "Jules Cesar" by Shakespeare, or in the famous French movie "Aventure en France" or "Africains de France".
He formed the "Trio Midiloms", the “Cocoblicos” and won the Olympia Music Hall first prize in 1968. His meeting with the famous Manu Dibango, then gave a new direction to his career. They recorded the famous "Pecoussa" album together, which drove him on tour, playing from Algeria to Brazil, or for the celebrations of General Bokassa in Central Africa Republic and General Eyadema in Togo. Signed to Philips, most of his songs were written in "Dida", his native language. He died almost anonymous, after bad musical experiences during the 80's.
